Ok so I'm well aware it's an election year and at times there are statements made by political candidates that are less than truthful or play fast and loose with the facts. Maybe the candidate is not fully up on the details or nuances of something technical. I can excuse that... it happens to everyone whether you're in politics or just talking with friends. We've all had that happen...Then there's Missouri Congressman Todd Akin...
In an interview on Aug 19th, 2012 Congressman Akin said:
"If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down"
Now apparently medical science has missed the mystical mechanism that allows the female body to be able to differentiate between a wanted penis and an unwanted penis. Some mystical or perhaps psychic ability that tells the female reproductive system that the sperm that is about to be deposited is unwanted. I'm sure Masters and Johnson, Planned Parenthood and a host of other medical experts would be happy to discuss the startling new medical evidence that Representative Akin has uncovered.
Not content to sound like the teabag hillbilly he is, Congressman Akin doubled down on his anti-choice, the government knows better, your vagina is public property idiocy by adding "But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child."
Ok so Representative Akin and his amazing here-to-unforseen expertise in female human reproduction thinks that the rapist should be punished, but the woman who has been impregnated by this act of violence against her person should have to go to term with the pregnancy.

Missouri... Please for all that is good, just and sane in this world please do not elect this knuckle dragging teabilly to the Senate. If this is the quality of misogynistic, pig ignorant, genetically defective asshole that you want to represent you, (* Damn, I was so trying not to curse as I wrote this *) please just stop electing people to Congress and secede from the Union.

Later in the day the Missouri Rep. posted on his facebook the following..."As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.
I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.”
So he didn't apologize for sounding like a pig ignorant, knuckle dragging teabilly or clarify his statement to say he is thinking about his stance of abortion in relation to rape, he doubled down on his anti-choice, the government knows better, your vagina is public property idiocy.
Bravo Representative Akin... That's an amazing job you're doing showing Missouri what is means to be a dumbass, beginning of the last century, douchenozzle.
